At SIGMADAF, we design and manufacture filter presses with lateral plate transfer for sludge dewatering or drying in wastewater treatment plants, as well as for the separation of solids and liquids in industrial processes.

The filter presses with side transfer are ideal for working with small and medium production of cakes, which is the name given to the solids separated and drained to the maximum.

What is a filter press and how does it work?

A filter press is a solid-liquid separation equipment that uses pressure to extract water from sludge, transforming it into a drier and more manageable material. This process significantly reduces the volume of sludge, facilitating its transport and final disposal, which contributes to more efficient and sustainable waste management.

The basic operation of a filter press involves feeding sludge into a series of chambers formed by filter plates. These plates are lined with filter cloths that retain solids while allowing water to pass through. As the pressure increases, water is expelled from the sludge and the solids are compressed into "cakes" that can be easily removed.

1. SIGMADAF FP-M: Opening and closing of the filter press by means of a double-acting hydraulic cylinder operated by a manually operated hydraulic pump. Manual displacement of the polypropylene plates.
2. SIGMADAF FP-HM: Automatic opening and closing of the filter press by electro-hydraulic system. Includes control panel. Manual displacement of polypropylene plates.
3. SIGMADAF FP-A: Automatic opening and closing of the filter press by means of an electro-hydraulic system. Automatic displacement of the polypropylene plates by means of 4 link chains.
4. SIGMADAF FP-AR: Automatic opening and closing of the filter press by means of an electro-hydraulic system. Automatic displacement of the polypropylene plates by means of 4 link chains. Includes automatic plate shaker.
5. SIGMADAF FP-ATL: Automatic opening and closing of the filter press by electro-hydraulic system. Automatic displacement of polypropylene plates. Includes automatic plate shaker. The plates are moved one by one with a back-and-forth plate transfer carriage.

Technical characteristics of filter plates

• Sizes ranging from 250 mm to 1500 mm.
• Available configurations: open and closed.
• Position of the feeding tabulators: central, upper central, off-center, corner and external.
• Maximum filtration pressure varies from 6 to 16 bar.
• Minimum/maximum temperature: from -10 to +120 Cº.
• Plate manufacturing materials: polypropylene homopolymers/copolymers; antistatic polymers; PVDF.
• Membrane materials: PP, PVDF, PTFE, etc.
• Welded or removable membranes.

Filter fabrics

We have a wide range of filter fabrics that adapt to the needs of each process.

The main characteristics of our filter fabrics are detailed below:

• Materials: polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyester, polyamide (Nylon), rilsan.
• Types of yarn fibers: multifilament, monofilament, staple fiber.
• Finishes: plain weave, twill weave, satin weave, basket weave
• An automatic scrolling frame system that cleans the fabrics with pressurized water can be included.

Control panel

We design and install customized electrical panels to meet the specific requirements of each project. If desired, the customer can choose his preferred brand for the switchgear and control components. In addition, the programming format of these panels is also adaptable to the customer's preferences.

We use programmable logic controllers (PLC) as the basis for the control of the automation of the filter press or installation and we use touch screens (HMI) to facilitate the interaction between the user and the machine, allowing an easy adjustment of set points and modifiable parameters of the installation.
