Advantages of DAFs as biological sludge thickeners in WWTP

SIGMADAF has supplied two DAF-FPAC200 equipment to perform as biological sludge thickeners at the municipal San Fernando Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Trinidad and Tobago.

This DAF equipment will operate in the sludge line of the municipal domestic wastewater treatment plant, highlighting the versatility of our flotation equipment.

It is a static thickener easy to use, low maintenance, and with an exclusive skimming system.

They are designed for the treatment of wastewater from small to medium flows and with high loads of pollutants to be removed. With a large flotation surface to ensure good flotation and solids separation, being able to treat up to 40 kg. of dry matter per m².

Besides, with application in biological flotation reactors (FBR), rendering, meat companies, and slaughterhouses, in the food, mining, petrochemical and paper industries, among others.

Among the main advantages of DAF, compared to conventional mud thickeners, are:

• Increased dry matter by more than double.

• It allows improving the subsequent dehydration of thickened mud, as a consequence it reduces operating costs.

This DAF-FPAC200 will be the first equipment with a depressurization system, to which our intelligent SMARTDAF system can be adapted, with which the activity information of any of the DAFs can be measured, analysed and processed to improve and optimize the results of the entire treatment process.

DAF FPAC200 dissolved air floats will treat 30 m3/h of urban water with a concentration of suspended solids of 8,000 ppm.

The water purification plant will have a treatment capacity of 45,000 m3/h. and will serve a population of 111,600 inhabitants.

The installation will consist of 16.3 km of collectors, of which 12.5 km will be made through a micro tunnel, with 11,964 service connections and seven pumping stations with flow rates from 7L/s to 203L/s.
