Reduction of total suspended solids in a waste valorization plant
Project location: GVC Valorization in Madrid.
Objectives: avoid the excessive input of suspended solids to its biological treatment.
Capacity: 5-10 m3/h flow rate.
Scenario
A waste processing and recovery plant required a solution to prevent excessive suspended solids from entering its biological treatment.
SIGMADAF Clarifiers designed, manufactured and supplied a DAF-FPAC10 to be installed as pretreatment of wastewater from a waste valorization plant. The function of this flotation equipment is to remove total suspended solids, functioning as a physical-chemical treatment for the conditioning of these waters that are subsequently derived to a biological treatment, which will be able to offer a better performance after the pre-treatment process.
The function of our flotation equipment is to separate the maximum total suspended solids from these complex waters so that the biological reactor can always work in the best conditions.
The flows received by this DAF-FPAC10 are about 5-10 m3/h and the TSS loads to be treated are 2000 mg/L, and can reach peaks of 4000 mg/L. With this process, more than 90% of the suspended solids are eliminated. As proof of this, some photos are attached with the Jar-Test tests where the efficiency of this pretreatment can be visually verified.
Performance
| SST average input | SST maximum input | SST output |
|---|---|---|
| 2000 mg/L | 4000 mg/L | 150 mg/L |
Physical-Chemical Pretreatment with a DAF-FPAC
The solution designed, manufactured and supplied by SIGMADAF Clarifiers consisted in installing a DAF-FPAC10 as pre-treatment of the wastewater in the waste valorization plant, with the objective of removing the maximum of pollutants present in the water before biological treatment.
The DAF-FPAC is a dissolved air flotation unit ideal for the treatment of industrial wastewater containing very high loads of solids and other suspended contaminants to be removed.
It is a versatile system that has applications in various industrial sectors, such as biological flotation reactors (FBR), sludge thickeners, rendering, in the meat industry and in poultry, pig and cow slaughterhouses, in companies that produce food, in the mining, petrochemical and paper industries, among others.
The function of this DAF-FPAC10 flotation equipment is to separate and remove total suspended solids (TSS) from these complex waters, functioning as a physicochemical treatment in order to condition these waters for subsequent biological treatment.
This physical-chemical process eliminates more than 90% of the solids in suspension, so that the biological reactor can always work in the best conditions.
Below are some photos of the Jar-Test trials where the efficacy of this pretreatment can be visually verified.
