Wastewater treatment in the agri-food industry
Project location: Cartagena - Murcia.
Objectives: Complete treatment of the discharge: conditioning by homogenization, cooling and physicochemical treatment with DAF and subsequent biological treatment using a bioreactor with ultrafiltration membranes, in addition to the treatment of the sludge resulting from the process. Compliance with discharge limits.
Capacity: 480 m3 / day.
Scenario
BUNGE Ibérica is a leading company in the agri-food sector. Its activity is focused on services to the agribusiness and food production chain through the manufacture and export of fertilizers, animal feed, production and processing of seeds and grains, production of oil bottles, mayonnaise, margarine and similar products, and wheat and corn milling.
BUNGE operates two refineries, one for soybeans and one for sunflower, and an extraction unit. The wastewater produced is characterized by a very high temperature (between 45 and 58 °C), which means that it requires special pretreatment before undergoing biological treatment. This treatment is necessary in order to comply with current discharge limits. All three discharges can be managed in the same treatment train, as they have similar characteristics.
