Treatment of wastewater with hydrocarbons in a thermal power plant
Project location: Thermal Production Unit (TPU) of Ibiza.
Objectives: Removal of solids, oils and hydrocarbons from the wastewater coming from the UTP.
Capacity: 20 m3/hour
Scenario
The Ibiza UPT Thermal Production Unit is a conventional cycle thermoelectric facility. It has 13 thermal units with a total power of 270 MW: six engines, four gas turbines and three double gas turbines. They use natural gas as the main fuel and diesel oil as auxiliary fuel.
The wastewater from the UPT of Ibiza contains a high quantity of oils, hydrocarbons and suspended solids, the elimination of which is the main objective of the treatment plant designed and installed by SIGMADAF. The treatment plant consists of a series of technologies for the separation of oils, hydrocarbons and suspended solids, in addition to the organic matter associated with them.
API + CPI technology equipment for the coarse removal of fuel oil and hydrocarbons: The system designed by SIGMADAF uses CPI separator plate technology for the separation of hydrocarbons inside the tank. It consists of a rectangular tank with an inclined bottom ending in a screw that extracts the sedimented solids, and includes a skimmer system for the separation of hydrocarbons and oils using API technology. It has a hot water heating circuit. Made of high quality steel.
Compact system for screening, desanding and fine separation of hydrocarbons: Includes inclined screen and shaftless screw for elevation of separated solids. Desanding section
includes a horizontal sand conveying screw. Next, a rectangular tank with trapezoidal bottom is installed, equipped with a set of independent coalescent lamellae for optimum water distribution performance, containing a skimmer system for the separation of hydrocarbons and oils. It has a hot water heating circuit. The system is built in high quality steel.
SIGMA DAF FPAC-20-S coagulation-flocculation and flotation clarification system: The physical-chemical treatment consists of the addition of coagulant and flocculant for the formation of floccules containing the suspended solids present in the water and which cannot be separated naturally by sedimentation given their low density, it also allows the partial removal of organic matter associated with these solids and the elimination of oil and hydrocarbon residues that may have remained after the previous treatment.
The addition of coagulant and flocculant is carried out in tanks in series provided with agitation and built in very high quality steel. A dosing system specially adjusted to the necessary doses of these products is supplied. These dosages are established by means of a previous flocculation test carried out in the laboratory, after which the dosage is readjusted on an industrial scale. The flocs generated are separated from the water using DAF dissolved air flotation technology. For the treatment plant built at the Ibiza UPT, a SIGMA DAF model FPAC - 20 - S is designed and installed. The objective of the technologies and equipment installed by SIGMA is to remove solids, oils and hydrocarbons from the wastewater coming from the UTP. The equipment is installed to optimize the existing water treatment process.
