Description of supply

The NBS group, a company dedicated to water treatment, acquired from SIGMADAF clarifiers the supply of two ACAF 175 compact flotation units as primary treatment for the WWTP located in Arreigada (Portugal).

The scope of supply includes: Two SIGMADAF ACAF 175 compact assemblies (one in reserve), including the metal body, float scraper system, solids removal screw, and two inductors for cavitated air. The wastewater is conditioned with a neutralization, coagulation and flocculation, by means of its dosing equipment with duplicate pumps to provide the reagents, and two PFL type contact coils, as well as power and control electrical panel, and engineering documentation. The performance of the equipment supplied corresponds to the following:

TSSOils and fatsCODDBO5
90 - 95%95 - 99%40 - 55%40 - 45%

SIGMADAF ACAF cavitated air flotation systems remove suspended solids, oils, grease and colloids from wastewater. They have a compact and functional design and are easy to install, operate and maintain, since they do not require compressors, pumps or pressure tanks to supply air to the wastewater.

They are boilermaking equipment of rectangular design and generally occupy little space, so they usually do not present problems related to their installation.

The cavitated air flotation system provides air in the form of micro bubbles in the wastewater inside the equipment, without the need for prior dissolution of the pressurized air. These microbubbles, once introduced into the aqueous medium, allow the separation of floatable particles and the sedimentation of solids in the same equipment. The solids that have sedimented, due to their greater weight, are collected at the bottom of the equipment, and the floating solids are collected by a surface sweeping system. Both floated and settled sludge are directed to a sludge container.

The technological solution that has been installed is the cavitated air flotation process.

Basic features

  • Material ACAF 175 : AISI 304
  • Dimensions: 14,000 x 2,400 x 3350 (L x W x H)
  • Holding time: 26 minutes
  • Easy installation and operation and quick start-up.
  • Compact design.
  • Manufactured in high resistance and robustness materials: AISI304 or AISI316.
  • Treats flow rates between 3 and 250 m³/h.
  • No civil works are required.
  • Minimal maintenance requirements: the recirculation system allows self-cleaning of the equipment.
  • The equipment is custom designed according to the flow rate and solids load.

Water clarification using a SIGMADAF air cavitation flotation system has a number of advantages that make it a very attractive option for the treatment of industrial effluents.
