DAF flotation system for physical-chemical treatment in the production of shoe leather.

Year: 2020
Project location: Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Portugal.
Objectives: Clarifier of a physico-chemical process for the treatment of wastewater derived from the treatment of hides and skins for the manufacture of footwear.
Capacity: 200 m3/day

Scenario

SIGMADAF has supplied a DAF-FPAC40 equipment to act as Physical-Chemical treatment in an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Portugal.

The WWTPI has been completely designed, assembled and commissioned by the technical team of AGUASIGMA, one of the SIGMA GROUP companies.

This DAF-FPAC40 acts as a clarifier in a physical-chemical process for the treatment of wastewater derived from the treatment of leather for the manufacture of footwear. The flotation equipment is made of AISI-304 stainless steel.

Characteristics of DAF-FPAC40 for physical-chemical treatments

This equipment is a high performance system, which includes a single motion separator that rotates against the hydraulic current helping to minimize the distance that the floated sludge travels and eliminating the entrainment of solids in the effluent.

This system produces a sludge with a dry solids content 3 to 4 times higher than would be obtained with a conventional system. Thanks to this high concentration of solids in the sludge, the volume of waste to be managed in any future treatment, such as dewatering or drying, is reduced, which consequently reduces operating costs.

WWTP for the treatment of water from a footwear industry

Portugal Shoes
General View EDARI

The WWTPI treats a maximum of 200 m3/day of wastewater with a suspended solids concentration of 1,000 ppm, a COD of 3,000 ppm and a pH of about 3.

The WWTPI has a pre-treatment system consisting of a wastewater collection well followed by a 1 mm screen and homogenization by means of a 300 m3 equalizing tank with 2 venturi aeration biojets.

After this treatment, the DAF-FPAC40 clarifies the water coming from the equalizing tank, achieving the quality objectives required for this project.

There is a sludge storage tank, product of the separation process carried out by the flotation equipment, and a filter press for the subsequent dewatering of this sludge. This minimizes sludge production and saves the client money in terms of outsourced sludge management.
